Pick of the Day

Sidney Crosby O 3.5 Shots on Goal (+122)

Tuesday @ 7pm EST | NHL | PIT vs. NJ

Sidney Crosby, the legendary Penguins' center, has an interesting opportunity in tonight’s game against the Devils. While expectations suggest he may not exceed 3.5 shots on goal—a feat he has accomplished in nearly 46% of games this season—the odds at +122 (FanDuel) hint at a 45% probability. This suggests there's value in betting on him to outperform these predictions.

The Penguins are currently facing challenges, with injuries to key centers Jansen Harkins and Noel Acciari, making Crosby's role even more pivotal. Evgeni Malkin, as Crosby's support, hasn’t been at his best recently, with less than 2.5 shots on goal in his last 10 games and limited scoring success. Furthermore, the Penguins are up against the Devils, who have shown weaknesses in defense, being ranked 18th in shots on goal and 30th in blocked shots. Despite the Penguins and Devils having similar season records, these factors could offer Crosby a prime opportunity to excel.

It's noteworthy, however, that Crosby has exceeded 3.5 shots in just 3 of his last 10 games, suggesting some variability in his performance. Nonetheless, given tonight's game dynamics and the opposing team's defensive record, Crosby has a genuine chance to make a significant impact.

NC State to win ML (+350)

Saturday @ 6pm EST | NCAAMB | NC State vs. Purdue

The impressive run of NC State has been remarkable, taking down basketball giants such as Duke and Marquette with relative ease. They've outperformed expectations significantly, achieving an 87.5% win rate against the spread in their last 8 matchups. A standout performer, DJ Burns Jr., has been exceptional, particularly noted for his 29-point game against the formidable Duke, showcasing the talent that made him a highly regarded four-star recruit in 2018, ranking just behind future NBA stars Zion Williamson and Ja Morant.

Despite these successes, there are reservations regarding Purdue, often seen as potentially overvalued. Their victory over Tennessee, despite the impressive stats of Zach Edey who scored 40 points and secured 16 rebounds, was marred by a slow pace and excessive fouling, with the game witnessing 37 fouls and Edey himself taking 22 free throws.

However, Purdue presents a significant challenge with their size advantage, boasting an average starter height of over 6'6", and Edey standing at an imposing 7'4". Edey's performance has not gone unnoticed, earning him acclaim as one of the top players in college basketball, with strong indications of an NBA future. Purdue's favoritism in the upcoming game, indicated by an 8.5-point lead, can largely be attributed to this size and skill advantage, posing a formidable challenge for NC State.
